F.A.Q.
FAQ
Where do you work?
Only in El Progreso, a city in North Honduras, where we work together with various local organisations. We have made a conscious decision to limit ourselves to one city so that we can establish better cooperation with just one community and, together with them, we can make far more impact and really make a difference. Here (link to the facts about Honduras) you can find more information about Honduras.
Who do you work with?
We work together with three Honduran organisations that we have carefully selected. By opting for local organisations we can be sure that the desire for better living conditions comes from the local population. With each partner we have established a bond of mutual trust. Here (link to “what we do in Honduras”) you can read more about this.
Who do you work for?
First of all, we work for (and with!) the poorest and most neglected children in El Progreso in Honduras. In addition to this we work on a small scale with a group of very poor women by giving them information about women’s rights and sexuality and by providing them with contraceptives at a very low price. Through our contact with the women we also hope eventually to reduce the number of neglected children.
What happens to my donation?
Since we started this work in 2002 the team members have paid all the expenses for Homeless Child. In this way 100% of your donation is spent in Honduras. Here (link to monthly costs) you can see what we can do with your donations.
Can I decide how my donation should be used?
Our partners in Honduras know best where help is most needed. In consultation with us, they decide how our donations should be used. If you (or your school, company, sports club etc.) collect a large amount of money, we can suggest to you a number of projects which are not only in the interests of the children, but also fit in with your goals. Here (link to help) you can read more about it.
How do you know that all donations are used appropriately?
The founder of Homeless Child works at his own expense for three or four months of the year in Honduras and various committee members come on a working visit to Honduras on a regular basis (also at their own expense). In this way we can keep an eye on all expenditure made. Moreover, we have built up a solid bond of mutual trust with our partners over the years and, via their bookkeeping, they are as accountable to us as we are to you in our annual reports (link to most recent report).
Can I also do something for the children?
Count on it! You can help us by doing voluntary work in the Netherlands or in Honduras. You can also organise a presentation or an event, such as a sports tournament, an auction or a benefit concert.
Am I welcome in Honduras?
Yes, you certainly are. First of all, by doing voluntary work there also, if you are seriously interested in learning more about the life and the care of the neglected children, and if you are already travelling through the area and would like to spend a day with the children, by doing sports activities, playing games or doing handicrafts. Such a visit should be well prepared and is only possible if you have a genuine interest in contributing to a better life for the children.
