Orphanage

weeshuis09Hogar Suyapa is a children’s home, founded to shelter children that have been taken away from their families by the court of El Progreso. The children are separated from their family if the authorities deem it necessary for their best interest. Some come straight from the nutrition center in El Progreso, if the parents do not cooperate there or do not visit their child, and if the court decides not to reinstate their parental rights.
The children’s home accepts children up to three years old. They stay there until they become independent adults. The management of the orphanage creates a cozy, homely atmosphere with sufficient attention for each child and with a well trained staff. Each adult has five children under his care. There is hope for a positive evolution in adoption law in Honduras, in order to allow some of our children to be adopted.
The orphanage depends financially on contributions for their work. 40 to 45% of contributions originate in Honduras. Friends and churches in other countries contribute to the project as well. Most contributors donate a monthly fee, and the goal is to always have financial security before we further expand our work, that’s why new children are only admitted to the house if the budget allows it.
