Programs
At the moment, Homeless Child supports three organizations in El Progreso, Honduras: ProniƱo, Hogar Suyapa and Asociacion Hondurena de la Mujer. These local organizations are all active in the town of El Progreso. The organizations and their programs have proven in the past that they are efficient in helping underprivileged children. The programs are fitted to the core values of the foundation: integral support and sustainability.
These programs are supported by Homeless Child:
- Shelter for street children
- Nutrition center for undernourished children
- Orphanage
- Family planning / sex education for women
Within the projects of the organizations there is shelter for a large group of children with different backgrounds and problems. There is not only room for undernourished babies, but also for orphans, street children and children addicted to drugs. There are children of both sexes and all ages, regardless of their religious, ethnic or social background.
It is essential that the help offered to them is structural, in order to make a material contribution to the prospects of the children in the projects. An underprivileged child is offered real, honest opportunities when guided until adulthood. Shelter and education are a primal condition, closely followed by access to primary education and professional training.
Apart from the focus on direct support for the children, Homeless Child also commits to prevent hardships for the children. To this end, women and mothers receive education on birth control and raising children, among others. Homeless Child is also starting a small program for microcredit, to improve chances of finding a sustainable future for the women who participate.
