At the beginning of 2010, I decided it was time to fulfil my long-cherished dream of doing voluntary work with children in a developing country. After a long search for the right location and organisation, I came across the website of Homeless Child. The mission, the vision and the enthusiastic stories of the founder and the volunteers really appealed to me. After an exchange of e-mails, everything was arranged; I was able to start work at the nutrition centre and Hogar Suyapa!

My adventure in Honduras began in October 2010. It was an unforgettable period during which I was confronted by a country rife with poverty and corruption, yet I was particularly moved by the sweet children. In spite of the fact that they were growing up without their parents and had already experienced a great deal of suffering and distress, they displayed a resilience and determination that moved and astonished me.

During my stay in Honduras, I realised that I would like to continue supporting the children. When I was asked if I would like to join the Homeless Child committee at the end of 2010, I realised that this was the perfect opportunity to continue with my voluntary work.

I live in Amsterdam and I also work there as a family coach with multi-problem families. As a member of the committee, I am going to do everything in my power to ensure that the children have a chance of a better future!
