About us
After Bas Wiersma had done voluntary work with street children in Honduras in 2002, he set up the Homeless Child Foundation with the help of others. Since that first summer, Bas has spent a up to six months every year working as a volunteer in Honduras. This is an excellent way of seeing, together with the various partners in Honduras, how the donations that have been received can best be used to meet the needs and priorities of the children. It is also an excellent way of building up a stronger bond with the people who are developing the project there. Meet our team members:
Bas Wiersma (info@homelesschild.org), Director
‘It is my aim to contribute to the restoration of balance in the world. A little money, a little love and a little energy can find its way to those who need it most via Homeless Child. It may be a drop in the ocean but with enough drops many oceans can be filled.’
Theo Zwart (t.zwart@homelesschild.org), Chairman / treasurer
‘Being part of the committee of the Homeless Child Foundation, which dedicates itself to the care and supervision of underprivileged children in Honduras – however meagre this may seem when you consider the imbalance between poverty and wealth on a world scale – it seems to me the least I can do is to contribute to the improvement of this inequality.’
Liduine Schonau (l.schonau@homelesschild.org), Secretary
‘In the Netherlands I work as a medical social worker at the Sint Franciscus hospital in Rotterdam. I want to dedicate myself to the projects in Honduras from the Netherlands, now that I have seen that the money is well spent.’

Karen van de Vis (k.vandevis@homelesschild.org), Committee member
‘I live in Amsterdam and I also work there as a family coach with multi-problem families. As a member of the committee, I am going to do everything in my power to ensure that the children have a chance of a better future!’
Ineke Wiersma (inekewiersma@home.nl), Co-founder
‘Who knows how many children we can finally offer a helping hand to in the building of their future lives. More and more children are living in the centre of Honduras!
We are working hard to support them.
Would you like to help?’
